Conecuh, 1937 - 1938
Scope and Contents
Maps of various sizes from 21 Alabama counties, index lists of the maps from the county offices, and construction plans for extension service approved farmhouses and equipment. Each map consists of individual farms or portions of larger farms. Both the owner and operators of the plots of land are listed. This information is valuable due to the number of tenant farmers who worked the land in Alabama during the Great Depression. The maps were created during the years 1937 and 1938 as a local project of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Office records indicate that the remainder of Alabama’s counties was to be mapped at a later time, but no evidence exists from any later projects.
