Accession 8-22-79: Initial Deposit, 1854 - 1968
Scope and Contents
This accession consists of various papers, letters, commissions, clippings, photographs, and reports to General James H. Lane relating to his service in the Confederate Army (1861-65) and association with academic institutions, principally Alabama A and M (1882-1907). Civil War documents consist of prodivison returns, orders, reports, and correspondence related to Lane's Brigade of North Carolina Troops, and is supplemented with much post-war correspondence on the wartime actions of the Brigade, especially Chancellorsville. One portion deals with the George L. Petrie family and financial papers relating to Lane's Estate.

Open except for box 8 which restricts use of an original copy of a twenty-two page holograph manuscript.

Custodial History
Roughly 170 photographs that were originally from this accession were separated from the collection and moved into the numbered photographs. However, around 1995 they were put back in with the collection under accession 95-156 and are presently in box 3 of said accession.
