Arrangement
This finding aid is organized by accessions. Each accession represents an addition to the collection. Each accession also represents a transfer of physical and legal custody of archival materials from the originating department to Auburn University Special Collections and Archives.
Custodial History
The materials in accession 8-22-79 and 95-156 were rescued by an interested person from trash disposal during the clearing of General Lane's home, prior to its move across town to be used as a club house for the Auburn Women's club. General Lane's house was originally located where the Ralph Brown Draughon Library presently sits. The materials were held at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for Arts and Humanities for some time prior to being given to Special Collections and Archives for retention and preservation. Kate Lane was the last member of the Lane family to reside in the home, and the materials were undoubtedly in her possession until she was forced by health deterioration to leave her home.
