The bulk of this accession consists of material collected by Sandra Newkirk while doing research on the history of women's athletics at Auburn University, particularly in the late 1960s and 1970s. The material includes administrative correspondence, rosters, score sheets, schedules, tournament programs, correspondence with the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, material related to the implementation of Title IX as it relates to athletics, and magazine articles and newspaper clippings on Auburn women's athletics and women's athletics in general. The collection also includes a transcript of an oral history interview with Newkirk and women's basketball coach Susan Nunnelly, speeches given by Sandra Newkirk on various occasions, photographs of Auburn women athletes and coaches, and correspondence conducted by Newkirk during the course of her research.
