George W. Andrews III was born on October 12, 1946 in Union Springs, Alabama to George Jr. and Elizabeth Andrews. He spent the majority of his childhood in Alabama. In 1961, he moved to Washington D.C. to become a House Page. As a page, he was assigned to the Democratic Cloakroom where he interacted with members of Congress on a daily basis. While employed by the House, Andrews attended the Capitol Page School, graduating in 1964. After his page service, Andrews earned his BA from Emory University and his JD from the University of Alabama. Over the course of his law career, he served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the U.S. Navy, worked as the chief prosecutor in the Jefferson County District Attorney's office, and worked in a private law practice and major legal firm in Alabama as a criminal litigator. Andrews was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease later in his life, and had to take a step back from legal work. In 2017, he completed his autobiographical manuscript "Carefully Taught," in which he chronicles his experiences growing up in the segregated South and his fight for equal rights for African American defendants. Andrews passed away at the age of 73 on April 24, 2019.
