Biography

George William Andrews, III (Oct. 12, 1946 – Apr. 24, 2019) was born in Montgomery Alabama to George William Andrews, Jr. and Elizabeth Bullock Andrews. He grew up between Union Springs, Alabama, and Washington D.C. In 1961 he moved to Washington D.C. to become a House Page. After his Page service, Andrews earned a BA from Emory University in 1968 and a JD from the University of Alabama in 1971. He served in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps of the United States Navy until 1975. From 1975 to 1979 and from 1985 to 1989, Andrews was a chief prosecutor in the Jefferson County, Alabama, District Attorney's Office. He also worked in a private law practice and for a major legal firm in Alabama.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of one oral history and two transcripts of interviews given by George Andrews III. The single recording contains an interview conducted by Auburn University Special Collections and Archives in October of 2014. One of the transcripts comes from this interview at Auburn University, while the other one recounts a series of three interviews with the United States House of Representatives Office of the Historian conducted between 2009 and 2011.
