Lewis - Plant Letters
Scope and Contents
This collection includes photocopies of letters. They are mostly concerned with family life and farming. Very good descriptions of life on working farms by people of the "yeoman farmer" class. Many details of cooking, quilting, home remedies, as well as church and social activities.
An interesting source for agricultural history, women's history, and social history of the "New South."
Calender lists and describes 37 dates letters and 17 undated or fragmentary letters.

Involves the Lewis and Plant families of the late 19th century. C.H. Plant of Notasulga, Alabama, was married to Frankie Lewis Plant who frequently corresponded with her sister Mollie Wright of Forest Home, Alabama. There are also cousins and brothers and sisters in Texas -- Belton, Van Alstyne, Marlin, as well as a sister in Rome, Georgia. Gives insight into the lives of people in the "yeomen farmer" class.
