Scope and Contents

This collection consists of photographs and negatives showing the Farrell family, William C. Farrell preparing to leave for service with the United States Army, and scenes from his Army service and travels. The Army scenes include some photographs of the occupation of Japan after the Second World War.

Biographical / Historical

William C. Farrell Jr. was born in 1927 in the Birmingham, Alabama, area, which he would call home for his entire life. He graduated from Phillips High School and then served with the United States Army where he assisted with the occupation of Japan following the Second World War. In 1951, Farrell earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Now Auburn University). He went on to a long career as a mechanical engineer after earning his degree. Farrell married Marjorie Vann, and the couple had four children. He died in 2011.
