Scope and Contents

This collection contains letters from Ted S. Faulkner to Frances S. Faulkner, his mother, and Helen Yearden, his aunt, while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. It also contains letters from his wife Fern Faulkner to her mother-in-law. The letters discussed Ted Faulkner's training, life during basic training and while serving in the army, information on areas he was stationed at, and matters at home in Seattle or where his family was living at the time.

Biographical / Historical

Ted S. Faulkmer served in the U.S Army Air Forces from 1937 to 1944 with the 435th Bomb Squadron, 19th Bomber Group. He trained as an air cadet at Randolph Field, Texas. During his World War II experience in Australia he acted as a bomber pilot, Captian, then Major. While in India during 1944 he acted as a Lt. Colonel, then a full Colonel. In 1942, he piloted the evacuation flight for Filipino President Manuel Quezon and his family from the Philippines. Ted S. Faulkner went missing in action during a bombing raid on Singapore on November 5th, 1944.
