Consists mainly of a manuscript written and researched by Linda Foster Rainey, the collection details the life of Joe Brady, a lumber businessman and community leader in Birmingham, AL. Contains the manuscript rough draft, photocopies of correspondence, photos, advertisements for chainsaws, lumber, etc., and other documents pertaining to Brady's life. The collection would be useful for subjects in lumber, Southern industry, and Alabama in WWII--homefront.

Contents From the Collection: This collection contains four letters written by Cynthia M. Hopson, instructor at the Talladega school, precursor to Talladega College. Hopson taught at the Talladega school in its initial schoolhouse, and later at the Swayne school when it relocated in 1867. In her letters, Hopson describes the overwhelming number of students and their speed at learning, and gives praise to the young freedman who assisted her in the classroom. A letter dated February 16, 1845 in which Samuel Woodbury, writing to his brother J.C. Woodbury, Esq. of Haverhill, New Hampshire, recounts the partly overland trip which included three voyages, one of them passage from Pittsburg to New Orleans.

Nine photographic prints of the scuttling of the German fleet at Scapa Flow, Scotland, on June 21, 1919. Seventeen photographs of agricultural and industrial sites throughout Alabama, likely taken for the Alabama Extension Service circa 1920s.
