He describes being shelled, leading cavalry to capture enemy troops and material, and meeting with old friends. He also criticizes the Confederate retreat from Kentucky.

This collection includes a diary written by Achsah Eugenia Scott. It begins in 1860, when she would have been approximately 16 years old, and ends in 1868, the year that records indicate she married a William Marcellus Boswell. A typed transcription of the diary is also included.
